Now, wherever you are, you can contribute to the fight against colorectal cancer. Choose either one of two Virtual Challenge™ options:

Virtual Teams:   Choose this if you do not plan to run.

This year, we are encouraging everyone to join a team. Talk with your friends, your family, your neighbors, and your coworkers. Tell them all about this event, and create a team of your own.

Even if you are not able to actually attend the New York City event, you can still participate in the 2010 Virtual Challenge™ wherever you are!

The Virtual Challenge™ is fun and helps a vital cause. Form a team today and join us, wherever you may live, across America or around the world!

Skip past Step B, and proceed to the Waiver/Agreement at the bottom of this screen.

New York Road Runners Virtual Runner:

We realize not everyone can make it to Central Park in New York City on Sunday morning March 28th. Many returning Challenge participants will know that our web site platform has always allowed people to fundraise and support individual Challenge participants and teams through on-line donations. This year we are significantly expanding our Virtual platform to allow you to form independent fundraising teams wherever you may be.

AN IMPORTANT NEW ADDITION TO OUR VIRTUAL CHALLENGE PLATFORM IS OUR NEW YORK ROAD RUNNERS VIRTUAL RUNNER. For the first time in Challenge History, Virtual Runner allows you to RUN either the 4-mile or 15K Challenge runs wherever you are in the world and submit your running time on-line for posting on the New York Road Runners Web Site!*

After completing the waiver below, you will be taken to the next Kintera registration page. There you will see there are THREE options listed: Start a Team, Join a Team, Join as an Individual. Each of these three options allows for Actual participation, Virtual Fundraising or participation in the New York Road Runners Virtual Runner option for the 2010 Virtual Colon Cancer Challenge.

* PLEASE NOTE: Self-reported Virtual Runner run times cannot be used for qualification for the New York City Marathon. However, completion times for Virtual Runners will be posted on the New York Road Runners website.
To report your Virtual Runner run completion time, please follow these simple steps:
  • Complete the Waiver/Agreement below.

  • Choose any of the three options: “Start a team,” “Join a team,” or “Join as an individual.”

  • Fill out the registration form, and choose one of the participation options marked as “Virtual Runner”.

  • Keep track of the username and password that you choose in the registration process— you will need that later.

  • Do not fill in the lines marked “VIRTUAL RUNNERS— Hours/Minutes/Seconds” at the bottom of the form; you will fill these out after you run.

  • Complete the rest of the options on the registration page, and you’re done—for now!
As a Virtual Runner, you have the flexibility to run the race at any time and place that is convenient for you (either a 4-mile run or a 15K run). Keep track of your time. After your run has been completed, come back to this website, and follow these steps:
  • Come back to this page the same way that you got here this time.

  •
This time, now that you have already registered, don’t follow the registration steps. Instead, click on “Enter my HQ“ at the left.

  • Enter the username and password that you established during your registration process. Click on Continue to go to your own website page.

  • Be sure that you have selected the tab marked “My HQ.”

  •
At the right side of the screen is a link marked “Edit my Profile.” Click on that link.

  • Your registration form will be displayed. Scroll down to the entries marked “VIRTUAL RUNNERS: Must be submitted by midnight EDT on 3/28; AFTER FINISHING your run, enter your completion HOURS/MINUTES/SECONDS.” Fill in your time in the three fields provided (hours, minutes, and seconds).

  • Click on the “Update” button at the bottom, and you’re done!
Your run completion time will be sent to New York Road Runners, and will be displayed on their website.
For your run to be reported, you must complete your run and enter the time here no later than midnight (Eastern Time) on Sunday, March 28th, 2010.
Now, to register for the Virtual Runner program, continue on to the Waiver/Agreement, below.

Note: A Waiver/Agreement for running is required for all participants, whether you will actually be running or not.
